I LOVE my KINDLE 2010-09-06
This is my second KINDLE -(I had bought the very first generation as well)
I love this Kindle version. The Kindle DX has a much greater contrast! Even in bright sunlight I am now able to read any text.(not so with the first one)
The page seize is larger so there is less 'turning of pages.'
Navigation is easy, pictures are great, PDFs look great, and most of all it has international download now available in most countries. I am all over the planet, and I can't take all my books everywhere I go, so this is a miracle! It is all I need for my long travels.
I definitely would suggest to get the Kindle DX leather cover, now available in many colors, as it holds the Kindle better. It helps protect the screen when storing. When taking it out of a bag or anything else, you don't need to worry where you are gripping the Kindle (screen, or pushing any buttons). My suggestion is to buy the cover with the Kindle all at once, as it saves shipping. I ordered mine in two steps.
I LOVE MY KINDLE DX!!!!WHAT A TREE SAVER & SPACE SAVER!
Great Customer Support! 2010-09-06
Thumbs up for Amazon customer support!
When I got my brand new Kindle DX, I soon realized something was wrong with the 5-way controller (it was pretty unresponsive). I live in Italy, where the free Amazon "Call me" service in unavailable, so I tried to contact them on the phone, but getting no answer, I sent them an e-mail message complaining I had been unable to talk to the custemer support. I got a call from them within 6 hours at my italian cellphone, and after a brief explanation, I soon got another Kindle being sent to me at no charge, together with a pre-paid UPS label for sending my defective one back to them. After two days, the second Kindle (perfect, this time) was in my hands.
Pretty impressive, indeed. I mean, as I said, I live in Italy, I know the way it is over here... ;-) I could expect no service like this from a local seller. Way to go, Amazon! Things can always go wrong, it's the way you react that matters!
Kindle Wireless Reading device 2010-09-06
Easy to use to use, very light to carry it around and screen is excellent when reading the books. The battery last longer more especialy when you just read the books without enabling the Whispernet.
What Like about the device:
1. Very light and easy to use.
2. The screen is excellent it doesnt affect your eyes.
3. The free basic Whispernet access
4. Music, you can listen to your favourate music like reading(Excellent!!!)
What I don't like
1. Whispernet is extremely slow
2. Paging through sometimes is very slow, it's like it is hanging.
3. The mouse is not user friendly sometimes your thums become tired when you use it.
4. The basic internet.
5. It doesnt support other file formats e.g .doc,etc.
6. It looks fagile
Recommendations
1. Introduce a touch screen (The first time I touched it I thought is a touch screen )
2. Improve your whispernet speed.
3. Introduce Voice recoder.
4. Introduce a basic Calender and a to do list.
Great Gadget! 2010-09-05
I don't know how I ever read without my Kindle DX!!! I absolutely love it.
Great hardware, terrible system 2010-09-05
I am seriously considering returning my Kindle DX. not because of any defect in the hardware - the Kindle itself is great. Battery lasts for the promised week, turning pages goes (mostly) fast, pdfs are displayed flawlessly and subscriptions just appear when they become available.
But.
I can't use it with the Kindle services. I refuse to buy books for about the price of a paperback, but not be able to keep this book. It stays on Amazon's servers and if Amazon wants to they can delete it. Also if I switched to another service (Nook, Sony ebook readers, anything else) I can't take my books with me. This is plain ridiculous. Arguing that DRM is implemented to stop piracy is stupid as I found tons of 'free' pdfs while searching for a bookstore that offers DRM-free books. (For tech-related books O'Reilly is a good address.. )
Similar stupidity with subscriptions. Firstly they are more expensive in Europe than in the US (by about a factor 2 sometimes), secondly I only get to keep the 7 most recent editions! This is outrageous! Granted, I can choose 'keep this issue' on my Kindle, thereby saving this particular issue on the Kindle, but if the Kindle is stolen, lost or just replaced all the issues stored on it are gone as well (and no, a backup to my computer doesn't help due to stupid DRM).
I just can't understand why anyone would by any ebooks or electronic subscriptions from Amazon as long as such practices are in place..
